Billboard has released their annual list of Top Music Money Makers. And wouldn’t ya know it; two country artists scored the number one and two spots. Taylor Swift, not surprisingly, came it at number one raking in just under $40 million. And that’s not even a complete earnings number. Billboard only uses US data and does not included sponsorship or merchandise numbers, meaning Swift’s deals with Keds, Elizabeth Arden and Coke were not included. Neither were any dollars earned overseas during her world tour. Or any merchandise sold during any tour. Kenny Chesney took the number two spot earning nearly $33 million in 2013. Chesney’s album and stadium tour attribute to this ranking. Fun fact here, for ten consecutive tours, Chesney has played to at least 1 million total attendees. It’s worth noting, even though Chesney came in at number two on this list, he did not receive a single ACM nomination, while Swift earned five.
While she has a long way to go before reaching Taylor Swift status, Cassadee Pope is following in Swift’s footsteps with a big debut. Pope’s debut single, “Wasting All These Tears On You,” has been certified platinum, selling over a million copies. She is the first solo country female to achieve this feat since TSwift did it in 2006 with her debut single, “Tim McGraw.”
