Eric Church is promising a rocking performance tonight at the CMA Awards. His new single “The Outsiders” in, Eric’s words, is like “If you go past that, it’s a cliff. Sometimes I feel like we’re leaning over it.” Church notes this song has people literally fighting over where it belongs genre wise, and he just doesn’t care, that’s why he’s playing it at the CMA’s. Church is officially back after taking a hiatus to write for his new record, with the lead single’s namesake which will debuted February 11th.
And if you’re not a Taylor Swift fan, you’ll want to be prepared to mute the CMA Awards at some point tonight. Swift is nominated for six awards and is guaranteed to walk away with one. The Pinnacle Award. The award is presented to artists who have who’ve made a significant impact on the industry, both nationally and internationally, based on their concerts and record sales at levels unique in country music. CMA President of the Board Ed Hardy says, “I’ve known Taylor since she was 16. She came to my office with her Mom to play her music and I was amazed. Taylor’s outstanding career epitomizes the definition of the Pinnacle Award.” Only one other artist in CMA history has received this award, Garth Brooks in 2005.
