Willie Nelson Bypasses Birthday to Help Neighbors

Apr 22, 2013 -- 9:00am
  • After the tragedy last week in West, Texas, Willie Nelson is stepping up to help out his neighbors.  Willie tweeted, “The previously scheduled concert on 4/28 at @thenewbackyard will now benefit West VFD. Details to come soon."  That concert was originally planned as a birthday celebration for Willie’s 80th, but as Willie put it, now is the time to help friends and neighbors saying, “West is just a few miles from my hometown of Abbott.  I was born and raised here and it was my backyard growing up. This is my community. These friends and neighbors have always been and are still a part of my life. My heart is praying for the community that we call home."  If you’d like to join Willie in helping out the folks of West click here.
  • In much lighter news, Trace Adkins is back at the acting gig.  This time as the lead.  Adkins will play the title character in the upcoming western, “The Virginian.”  It’s a move that’s been remade several times and even had a life as a series.  While Adkins has played several roles, this is his first lead, and he’s not getting too cocky about it saying, “I told the director, the first day that I met him up there on the set, I said, 'OK, let's get this out of the way first: I don't trust anyone who casts me as a lead in the movie.  So let's just start from there.”  “The Virginian” should be released later this year.
